The Creative Spark

What is creativity?

It is a holding and a letting go at once. It is being open enough to channel life force and focused enough to direct the energy. It is admitting how little control we really have and then finding treasure once we let go and play the fool. Creativity is a practice of being open to new ways of thinking and being. It is what is possible when we dare to believe.

Creativity is a willingness to change, to hope, and to imagine something different. It’s how we move into a more balanced way of living on this precious earth.

Who is creativity for?

You don’t need to be an artist to be creative. Being creative is an innate human trait. We are creative in big and small ways everyday from choosing what to wear and planning meals, to figuring out the best way to resolve difficult situations. We need as much imaginative and creative problem solving on earth as possible. Strengthening your creative ability will benefit you and the collective.

Creativity is a bridge to resilience, healing, joy, & transformation for everyone. ∞

The Creative Spark

Inspiration–being moved–especially for the sensitive, impressionable soul, is one big creative spark. Passion is another. Finding the creative spark is like having coffee in the morning. It gets you started, and then it’s off to the water, ready, willing, hopeful, prepared for the wave. And when the wave comes, you ride it, balanced, focused, present, and in flow.

Someone who has found creative flow will always try to get back to it. There is nothing like it. When flow is blocked, it can be agonizing, but we trust & try to remember that another wave will always come and in the meantime we can stay open so we are ready. We can stoke the creative flame.

Unleashing Creative Energy

  1. After getting comfortable and taking a few breaths, go inward and slowly move your awareness from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head, asking to be shown where creative energy currently resides in your body.

  2. When you find a pocket of creative energy, ask what color it is and how it would like to express itself.

  3. With any art materials let the creative energy express itself. Trust what comes through, get messy, be free in the process. Feel how you are the conduit for this creative energy.

  4. When you’re finished journal or reflect on the question, what does my creativity need to thrive?

  5. Set a time to unleash your creativity regularly, without worrying about the outcome and instead really getting into the process.
